Our Values

What defines us as the ELLB team and our way of working? What’s behind the scenes? Together as a team, we have developed a value base for our collaboration. We discussed the values that are important to us in our interactions with each other, as well as in our work with partners and target groups. We were guided in this process by the Fraunhofer Cerri – Center for Responsible Research and Innovation. The result of our exploration on this topic can be found in the form of our value tree on this page.

What lies behind our values?

Sustainability is embedded in every aspect of what we do at ELLB and serves as the foundation for everything we build upon. Therefore, sustainability is the root of the learning lab, both strategically and operationally. For us, sustainability is multidimensional, and we would like to highlight the following dimensions:

  • Employability: Through our training and further education offerings in the future-oriented battery sector, we contribute to sustainable economic growth and productive full employment.
  • Diversity: Diversity refers both to the variety of our offerings and, even more importantly, to the diversity of our target audience. Everyone is welcome with us – regardless of gender, age, religion, sexual identity or orientation, origin (ethnically or geographically), educational background, etc.
  • Market-oriented: Our offerings are based on market research results about the current and projected needs for today’s and future specialists and executives in the battery sector. Competence analyses also help us understand how we can address the needs of our target groups through the didactic design of our training programs, enabling us to respond sustainably to the demands of the industry.
  • Relevant topics: Based on our market research findings and continuous, iterative exchanges with experts, we have identified the key topics for our offerings. Our goal is to focus on the necessary and relevant subjects to make the best and most sustainable use of the time invested in training and further education.
  • Future-oriented education: Our offerings are designed with a modern understanding of learning and follow the approach of lifelong learning. In addition to imparting relevant content through an innovative mix of methods and modern learning technologies, we address the necessary future skills for our target audience through our learning design. This enables our participants to succeed now and in the future within the context of battery cell production.

Openness and community form the foundation of our collaboration and create the atmosphere for our value tree. We also signal an open community externally by sharing our knowledge and inviting all interested parties to take advantage of our offerings. In this way, the value tree (symbolically) also contributes to the atmosphere.

Openness is our response to the diversity and heterogeneity of our topic. The collaboration of many different partners, the interplay of various interests, the consideration of a heterogeneous target audience, the uncertainty surrounding the future of the battery industry... we want to address all of this with openness and transparency. Through our focus on training and education, we aim to be pioneers. We want to build bridges, connect people and topics, and ultimately meet the cross-functional challenges of the battery industry. With our open mindset, we strive for a positive attitude that allows us to face new challenges and overcome prevailing thought patterns.

At ELLB, our goal is to establish a vibrant community – we look forward to the shared journey with you into the world of batteries! Together, we want to make learning an experience. All the values seen in our value tree flow into this process. Become part of our community and help shape Europe's green future with us!

Every interested individual should have the opportunity to participate in our offerings. To ensure this, we create the necessary conditions and focus on accessibility, both for our online training programs and our in-person seminars. Through actively engaging with the topic of diversity in the development, marketing, and delivery of our offerings, we aim to uphold justice in this area. To support us in this effort, we have enlisted the advice of our partners at Fraunhofer CeRRI – Center for Responsible Research and Innovation.

Trust is very important to us, both internally and externally. The ELLB is supported by the involvement of many Fraunhofer institutes and cooperation partners, all of whom collaborate within a trusted partnership, sharing and making their knowledge transparent. Participants in our offerings can rely on quality, professionalism, and sustainability.

The battery industry is currently evolving rapidly and undergoing a transformation. Many parameters are uncertain, and the experiential knowledge required for large-scale manufacturing, for example, must still be built in Europe. Therefore, we see it as our task to respond agilely to market changes. We aim to achieve this through regular expert exchanges regarding our offerings and close involvement of our target groups in pilot programs. In this way, we can ensure that we respond to market changes in a timely manner and make adjustments quickly and flexibly.

As part of the Fraunhofer Society, excellence is in our DNA. Therefore, we hold the highest standards for the quality of our ELLB offerings. For us, this means that the content of our training programs is valid, relevant, well-researched, and well-founded. Additionally, we place great value on our gold standard in the underlying didactics: well-trained instructors, the best mix of methods for the target group and topic, the use of modern didactic concepts and learning technologies, and addressing future skills through our learning design.

In addition to the excellently staffed ELLB development team, we are supported by our advisory board, which consists of experts from various fields such as industry, education, didactics, etc., to integrate diverse perspectives into our offerings.

The mission of the Fraunhofer Society is to make innovation and research knowledge accessible and usable. Accordingly, innovation is embedded in the DNA of the content we offer, which facilitates the transfer of the latest research findings in the battery sector. In addition, innovation is reflected in the didactic implementation of our offerings at the learning lab. By focusing on smart learning and modern learning technologies, such as augmented reality, we aim to promote innovation in adult education. Addressing future skills that are specifically relevant to the battery sector, in categories like innovation & creativity, digital & technology, communication & collaboration, and self-management through our learning design, is another innovative approach we implement.

At ELLB, participation and involvement in the development of our training programs are highly valued. Close collaboration with representatives of our target groups, industry, Fraunhofer experts, and universities allows us to create valuable educational offerings.

Furthermore, we are committed to promoting the active participation of our participants in our programs. We do not view training as a one-sided process, but rather encourage problem-solving skills for future challenges in the battery industry, for example, by collaboratively working on application-based scenarios in cross-functional teams.

We are very committed to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and strive to implement them on as many levels and facets as possible for the ELLB. For us, this is a continuous process in which your views, suggestions and proposals are welcome! Feel free to share them with us at ellb@ffb.fraunhofer.de.
