EU Battery Regulation and Battery Pass

August 05, 2025, online

Gain Knowledge of the EU Battery Regulation and the Battery Passport Across the Battery Value Chain in This Specialized Training Module

As a cornerstone of the European Green Deal, the new EU Battery Regulation sets the framework for a sustainable future of energy storage. Its provisions promote circular economy, resource efficiency, and aim to improve the battery life cycle with regard to climate neutrality and environmental protection. In this module, participants will learn how various stakeholders are affected and how to translate regulatory principles into practical implementation.

Course Summary

The EU Battery Regulation and Battery Passport module provides an overview of the technical, administrative, and organizational requirements outlined in the regulation. A particular focus is placed on the Battery Passport, a core component of the legislation. Participants will learn who qualifies as a producer, importer, distributor, manufacturer, or authorized representative under the regulation—and what responsibilities come with each role. Following a theoretical introduction, the implementation of the Battery Passport will be explored through interactive case studies, allowing participants to apply their knowledge in a practical, hands-on format.

Benedikt Gruber

My name is Benedikt Gruber, and I work as a research associate at the Fraunhofer Research Institution for Battery Cell Production FFB, in the Sustainability Management group. My work focuses on both the evaluation and implementation of Re-X strategies, with a particular emphasis on direct recycling, and the analysis of material flows along value chains in the context of battery cell production. In addition to the technological aspects of the production process, the ecological sustainability perspective is highly relevant—where tools such as Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) play a crucial role.
